List of Subject-Specific Competences

1. Language competence – Language B competence at C1-C2 level.
2. Communication competence – Socio-cultural, cross-cultural and communication competence combined with the practical use of translator’s behaviour code, and the knowledge of translator’s licenses and duties.
3. Bi-directional Translation Competence – Skill in translating and localizing different text types (informative, expressive, literary, advertisement, etc.), together with providing comments and references required.
4. Interpreting Competence – Competence in sight translation, two-way consecutive interpreting and two-way conference Interpreting.
5. Editing Competence – Skill in editing, reviewing and summarising texts in languages A B and C .
6. Pragmatic Adaptation Competence – Ability to take into account the multi-layer structure of the source text, observe the source and the target language norms and meet the written translation quality requirements; ability to use translation transformations of various types and to adjust the translation to the target reader.
7. Methodology Competence – Ability to use the systemic knowledge of current Translation Studies in an independent piece of research (with the supervisor’s help) and to elaborate it into an MA thesis.
8. Information Technology Competence – Skill in using text editing programmes, contemporary information sources, databases, electronic dictionaries, translation software (like Translation Memory) and programmes for interpreting online conferences.
9. Re-writing Competence – Skill in re-writing texts while preserving the message and in creating a text on the basis of an original text, in languages A, B and C.
10. Team Work Competence – Ability to manage the work of a translation pool.
11. Management Competence – Ability to set up a translation pool, and to coordinate the project activities of staff and free-lance translators.
